Is modeling Halal? I have seen and read about many Muslims who model for brands and companies and I am wondering if modeling is halal? I know it becomes haram if one is exposing their ʿawra. But what about simply wearing clothes for brands and being photographed and displayed on stores/magazines or being a runway model. Is it halal as long as one follows its restrictions and doesn't showcase revealing clothes?
There is nothing inherently impermissible about male modeling, such as to showcase Islamic clothing for a website, especially where one’s face is not shown, provided it does not involve actions or elements that are themselves impermissible.[1] However, in practice, male modeling is often associated with various impermissible aspects, such as the use of make-up,[2] music, and the free mixing of genders.
Additionally, the modelling industry places excessive emphasis on physical appearance, leading to the objectification of individuals and conflicting with the core values of ḥayāʾ and fiṭra.[3] It may also lead to obsession with one’s looks, vanity, pride, or other spiritual illnesses. The nature of the profession, especially in runway modeling, often involves practices that compromise one's dignity, which is not befitting for a Muslim.[4]
Therefore, it is generally advisable to refrain from engaging in this field due to the issues typically associated with it.

[1] وأما إذا أضاف الشراء إلى الغصب إلا أن الرجل إذا لم يعلم أن الذي قدم إليه من الغصب بعينه، فلأنه لم يعلم بالحرمة.
والأصل في الأشياء الإباحة. وإن علم أنه مغصوب بعينه لا يحل أن يأكل، لأنه علم بالحرمة

وفي شرح المنار للمصنف: الأصل في الأشياء الإباحة عند بعض الحنفية ومنهم الكرخي، وقال بعض أصحاب الحديث: الأصل فيها الحظر. وقال أصحابنا: الأصل فيها التوقف بمعنى أنه لا بد لها من حكم، لكنا لم نقف عليه بالفعل. وفي الهداية من فصل الحداد، أن الإباحة أصل

وأما قول المصنف: إنه (التتن) من المكروهات ففيه نظر أيضا ... بل من جملة المقررة في الأصول: أن الأصل في الأشياء الإباحة عند أبي حنيفة رحمه الله تعالى

وفي الأشباه في قاعدة: الأصل الإباحة أو التوقف، ويظهر أثره فيما أشكل حاله كالحيوان المشكل أمره والنبات المجهول سمته اهـ قلت: فيفهم منه حكم النبات الذي شاع في زماننا المسمى بالتتن فتنبه، وقد كرهه شيخنا العمادي في هديته إلحاقا له بالثوم والبصل بالأولى، فتدبر
