There is nothing explicitly and firmly established within the madhhab, although some latter-day fuqahāʾ have considered plucking the hair underneath the lip as an innovation (bidʿa) for men.

Hence, while it is precautionary to avoid removing that hair, anyone who does so should not be criticized either. What is necessary, though, is that a man maintains what pious Muslims would consider a dignified and respectable appearance, including a well-kept beard.^[1]
