I have seen fatwa on Turkey halal status do we have something similar for Egypt? We have lot of stuff imported from Egpyt here in USA like knor/maggie chicken boulion, jelly, candy etc
Egypt is a Muslim majority country with an overwhelming 90% Muslim population.[1] The default assumption with regard to Muslim majority countries is that the meat provided therein is halal. This assumption stands unless proven otherwise.[2]
Regarding meat produced within the country, according to Egypt’s official Dār al-Iftāʾ, machine-slaughter of poultry is deemed halal.[3] As machine-slaughter is generally not a factor in non-poultry livestock, the assumption that the slaughter is carried out in a permissible manner remains valid.[4]
Additionally, a large portion of meat is imported into the country to supplement the local demand.[5] The Egyptian government has appointed a single organization known as “IS EG Halal” to regulate all meat imported into the country.[6] Although they hold very high standards when it comes to slaughter, they also permit the use of machine-slaughter.[7]
In summary, one can consume most meat products in Egypt with the exception of poultry. For poultry, one should inquire as to whether the source is machine-slaughtered or hand-slaughtered. This same ruling is extended to meat-derived ingredients.
And Allah knows best.
